Wafers are one of the desserts that I would call most memorable ones of my childhood. There are many variations of wafer cakes. Some require you to cook the caramel with butter and lemon juice, or mixing sweetened condensed milk with cocoa.

Others take turns layering sweetened condensed milk with condensed milk or so called Dulce de Leche. Another version has crumbled halva between the layers of caramel.

My favorite wafers cake was, of course, made by my mom. She spread them – thick or thin, colored or monochrome – with caramel spread and condensed sweetened milk. Later it used to be cut into pieces and served on the table.

I’ll admit, I would never had enough of this wafers! They are both crisp and soft, sweet and caramel at the same time. These wafers do not leave you indifferent.

How to make Wafers with Caramel Spread and Condensed Milk?

To make these Wafers with Caramel Spread and Condensed Milk is very easy. All you have to do is spread some caramel spread and condensed milk all over the wafers and press it down.

Spread cream on the wafers, making sure to reach the edges. Don’t be concerned with filling each square or you will have too much frosting on the cake. Just put enough to have the layers stick.

Place cake under a heavy cutting board or make a press using a cutting board with a bowl of water on top. Let it sit under the press at least 2 hours.

Wafers can be cut in any desired shape, preferably square. It is important not to make it too small as they may start to spread slightly.

What spread you should be using?

Wafers can be spread with cocoa butter, jam, halva or boiled condensed milk. But this method of spreading waffles with condensed milk and caramel is the easiest.

It is worth choosing condensed milk, which is rich in milk fat. Caramel cream is a caramel thickened milk product. It is harder than condensed milk and is a little more difficult to spread.

Reikės

  • 100 g wafers round or square
  • 1/3 sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/3 caramel spread

Instrukcija

  1. Spread a thin layer of Caramel Spread on a piece of waffle wafer. Make sure you go right to the edges. Layer it thick enough so that another waffle wafer will stick to it. Repeat.

  2. Alternate the Caramel Spread with sweetened condensed milk.

  3. Keep layering the waffle wafers with the Caramel Spread and sweetened condensed milk until you are happy with the height. I usually go 10-12 high for thin round wafers.

  4. Using a cutting board, press down lightly applying even pressure on top of the wafers to bind the layers together. Weight it down with something heavy, like a mortar and pestle and allow to set for at least for 2 hours. Refrigerate until you are ready to use.

  5. Slice it and serve with some berries or tea.
